Vance Kirkland was a painter who lived in Denver for over 50 years. I became interested in his work after going to a dinner party at the house he used to own. The Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art is in downtown Denver and incorporates his original studio.
Kirkland was only 5'2" and couldn't reach over a large canvas, so he would suspend himself in these four straps above the painting.
